  • Note*: Jesse was a native of Butler County, Ohio. He farmed, was a butcher, and kept a hotel. He was a "strong democrat all his life" and served as township trustee and assessor. He resided in Walnut Township, Montgomery County, Indiana from 1855 to 1863 and in Hendricks County, Indiana from 1863 until his death in 1873.5

Obituary of William Chambers, Lebanon Daily Reporter, Lebanon, Ind., 17 Jun 1918.
  • Obituary*: "DIED NEAR MACE.
       "William Chambers Succumbs to Uremic Poisoning.
       "William Chambers, seventy-five years old, died at 10 o’clock Friday morning [14 Jun 1917] at the home of his son, Homer Chambers, southwest of Mace [Indiana]. Death was due to uremic poisoning. Mr. Chambers had for years been one of the most prominent farmers of that vicinity. In recent years he had made his home a great part of the time with his daughter, Mrs. Homer Linn of Crawfordsville.
       "He was born in Rockbridge county, Virginia, and moved to Montgomery county early in life. He leaves three sons, Homer, Andy and Bert, all of near Mace, and two daughters, Mrs. Homer Linn of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Henry Morris of Bainbridge.
       "Funeral services were held at the Mace M. E. church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Burial was at the K. of P. cemetery at Mace."8
  • Note*: He served in the Civil War, enlisting as a private on August 16, 1862 in Company L, 5th Indiana Cavalry Regiment. He was promoted to corporal and was mustered out on September 15, 1865 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.9
