He moved to Dallas in 1888, where he operated a contracting business; moved to Louisiana in 1900 for two years, where he built levees north of Baton Rouge; returned to Dallas in 1902, joined Mahana, Robinson & Lemmon, a real estate firm, and opened Lemmon Avenue Heights Addition; and in 1903 became Texas branch manager of the J. I. Case Threshing Machine Company, a position he held until he retired in 1930. He was a member of the board of education for the City of Dallas for ten years and was serving as president of the board when he resigned in February 1926. He was county commissioner for Dallas County in 1931-32. He also was a member of the Citizens Association Committee in 1907-08 and a director of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Bonehead Club in Dallas, an active Mason, and a lifelong Methodist.¹
