  • Obituary*: "Football Fatal to Stamford Youth
       "A news item from Stamford [Texas] has the following to say about the death of the boy who died from injuries received in playing football with the Anson school team:
       "‘Paul Loop, local high school student, died this morning from blood poisoning superinduced by a dislocated hip sustained in a game of football while playing on the high school team several weeks ago.
       "‘Loop was very prominent among the students of the high school and comes of a prominent family. Loop sustained a similar injury a few years ago, it is said. Blood poisoning set up after an injury and he was taken to a sanitarium where he failed to improve.’”.14
  • Note*: • He died of septicemia.
    • His grave stone includes the inscription, "Oh Paul how desolate our home without thee."15,16

       "Carolyn Loop, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Loop, died as a result of injuries received in an accident here Thanksgiving Day when a pickup truck in which she was riding with five other Stamford High School students went out of control and overturned.
       "The accident occurred on the Ericksdahl farm road just east of Golf Drive, in the city limits. Carolyn was taken to Stamford Memorial Hospital in a Kinney Funeral Home ambulance but she died about 5:30 o’clock—within an hour after the accident.
       "Pat Murphey, another passenger in the vehicle, was treated at the hospital for lesser injuries. Cherry Freeman, the other girl in the group, received an injured hand.
       "Stamford police officer Tee Barbee, who investigated the accident, said J. T. Wisener told him that Cherry and he were in the cab of the pickup, and that Carolyn, Pat, Ted Boedeker and Bob Boone were in the truck.
       "Barbee said some difficulty developed with the steering and J. T. Lost control as the car crossed the intersection, going east.
       "The boys and girls riding in the back either were thrown out or jumped and the truck overturned, coming to rest on the opposite side of the street on its side, on top of Carolyn.
       "The boys summoned an ambulance and were assisted by J. C. May in lifting the vehicle to free the injured girl.
       "Carolyn had taken an active part in student activities at the high school, having been a member of the bank and the Fine Arts Club. She was secretary-treasurer of the sophomore class and president of the junior class. She was a senior this year.
       "Born March 26, 1945, in Temple, Carolyn had spent most of her life in Stamford.
       "Funeral service was held Saturday morning at St. John’s Methodist Church where she was a member, taking an active part in the youth work of the church.
       "Dr. Burgin Watkins, pastor, was assisted by Lin Jones, youth director, in the service. A special section of the church was set aside for members of the senior class and they, as well as other school students, were present in large numbers.
       "Many contributions are being received to purchase a piano for the Methodist Youth Building, to be dedicated to her memory.
       "Serving as pallbearers were Ferdie Walker, Jon Link, Ernie Cowger, Ted Boedeker, Joe Ray Scurlock and Francis Steiger Burial was in Highland Memorial Cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home in charge.
       "Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Loop; a sister, Cindy, and one grandmother, Mrs. L. L. Loop of Stamford."11
  • Note*: • An obituary newspaper gives 26 Mar 1945 as her death date.
    • Her death was the result of a car wreck on Thanksgiving Day.12
