William Fitzgerald Kenner

  • Note*: He had been in the Army in the Mexican War and then gone to California in 1849 for the gold rush. He moved to Navarro County, Texas from Wentzville, Missouri in the 1850s, when he was in his late twenties, where he established one of the first commercial brick plants and is said to have built the first brick building in Corsicana. Around the beginning of the Civil War, he moved his family back to his parents' home in Wentzville. After the war they moved to Chatfield, Texas, where he farmed until retirement, when he and his wife moved to Waxahachie.6,4

Jane Elizabeth ('Jenny') Miller

  • Obituary*: VENERABLE LADY PASSED AWAY
    Had Been a Resident of Navarro County for Fifty-nine Years
    Mrs. Jennie Elizabeth Kenner, widow of the late William F. Kenner, aged seventy-nine years, died at her home here yesterday [21 Mar 1920], and the remains were interred at Chatfield this afternoon at 3 o'clock, after funeral services here at the home at 12:30 conducted by Rev. John Mullin and Rev. C. H. Booth, and at the grave by Rev. A. C. Parker of Dallas. The services were largely attended and there were many beautiful floral offerings.
    The deceased was born at Merriettsburg, Ky., May 10, 1841, and was married to William F. Kenner in Missouri, June 7, 1859. They moved to Texas and settled at Chatfield in 1861 where they resided until shortly after the civil war, when they returned to Missouri. They remained in Missouri only a few years, when they returned to Chatfield and resided there continuously until the death of Mr. Kenner a few years ago. The deceased united with the Christian church at the age of fourteen, and from that date to her death remained a consistent member of that church. The deceased was the mother of ten children, eight of whom survive her, F. B. Kenner, Mrs. Cyrus Moores and Mrs. Ernest Phillips of Waxahachie; W. N. Kenner of Powell. Mrs. Mack Parks of Dallas; W. R. Kenner, R. F. Kenner and Mrs Leon Guynes of Corsicana. In addition to her own family Mrs. Kenner raised two nephews, sons of a deceased sister, and another nephew and niece, the children of a brother.9
