       "Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Resthaven Memorial Park. The Rev. Steve Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Corleys Funeral Home.
       "She was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin F. Easterling.
       "She was born July 21, 1906 in Rice, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Navarro County and a member of Chatfield United Methodist Church.
       "Survivors include one sister, Ruby Lynn Shelton of Rice; one brother, Hugh Smith of Burleson, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews."
  • Note*: • She lived all her life in Navarro County, Texas and at her death was a member of Chatfield United Methodist Church, Chatfield, Texas.
    • They had no children.
    • The Easterling home was built around the turn of the 20th Century as the Methodist church building in Roane, Texas. The Easterlings bought it in 1951, moved it about seven miles north to Chatfield, and modified it for use as their residence (while retaining the stained-glass windows). Mary continued living in it after Ben's death in 1972.11,12,13

              "Mr. Shelton was born on Dec. 29, 1942, in Borger. He was a former owner and operator of Air Temp Express in Fort Worth.
              "He was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Ruby Lynn Shelton.

       "Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday [6 Jan 1991] in the Keever Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Rice Cemetery.
       "She was born Feb. 22, 1900 in Rice, the daughter of William D. and Corrine Gibson Bartlett. She was raised in Rice and graduated from Rice High School. She graduated from Texas Woman's University in Denton. She was a formar school teacher in Rice, Blooming Grove, Ennis and Corsicana. She was a member of Haynie Memorial Methodist Church in Rice.
       "She was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Ellis, in 1981.

       "RICE, Texas, [Saturday] March 2 [1935].—(Spl.)—William Gibson Bartlett, aged 29 years, of Rice, died in a Dallas Hospital Friday morning after an illness of six months and the funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Haynie Memorial Methodist church with burial in the Rice cemetery.
       "Bartlett was a native of Rice and a graduate of Rice high school.

In 1975 the District Court of Navarro County, Texas declared her dead, allowing payment of a small amount to be passed to her heirs for condemnation of right-of-way for Interstate 45 that had been tied up since 1956.4,5,6,7

       "RICE—Madison Marshall Parker, 73, Rt. 1 Rice, was killed Friday [23 Aug 1974] about 8:10 a.m. in a car-pedestrian mishap as he walked along the highway about a mile and a half south of Rice on IH 45.
       "Justice of the Peace G. W. O’Neal pronounced Parker dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy. Pending results of the autopsy, Judge O’Neal said his inquest ruling is that 'he was killed in a pedestrian-car accident.'
       "Investigating Highway Patrolman Clayton Smith said Parker was struck by a 1973 Toyota driven by Marilyn Alice Merryman, 19, a McAllen secretary, when her car went off the road onto the shoulder.
       "Patrolman Smith said Miss Merryman was brought to Memorial Hospital where she was treated in emergency for 'shock' and facial cuts and released. Results of his investigation into the death will be submitted to the District Attorney’s office.
       "Funeral arrangements are pending at Griffin Funeral Home. His survivors were unknown to Griffin’s at presstime today."19
