When he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1917, the Army required a second name; he turned to the recruit behind him, asked his name, which turned out to be Arthur, and told the Army it was his middle name.15

       "Graveside services are set for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery for Benjamin C. (Dick) Bartlett, 60, of Mount Pleasant who died Monday in Mount Pleasant. Local arrangements are with Corley Funeral Home.
       "Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at Mount Pleasant.
       "Survivors include his widow, a daughter, two sons and seven grandchildren."17

       "DALLAS—Mary Mel Bartlett, 94, of Dallas and formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, in Dallas.
       "A private family service was held Thursday, Nov. 8, in Corsicana.
       "Mrs. Bartlett was born on June 29, 1913 in Corsicana. She taught school for 34 years and during the last years she taught in Talco and Winfield elementary schools. While she lived in Mount Pleasant she was a member of Bridges Chapel Methodist Church.
       "She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law . . . and nephew and wife . . . .
       "She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Bartlett, and her parents."12

       "Richard C. Norwood of 2122 Maryland, Dallas, a former resident of Enins [sic], passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in a Dallas hospital. He had been in failing health for a number of years.
       "He was a druggist in Ennis for several years before moving to Dallas.
       "Survivors are his wife, the former Miss Jessie Bartlett of Rice, of the home address; one son, Richard H. Norwood.
       "Arrangements are pending in Dallas with Prewitt Funeral Home, 1810 Denley Drive."9
