Irwin J. Gallemore

M, ID# 6259, b. 7 February 1902, d. 6 September 1922
  • Obituary*: Irvin Gallemore Killed in Gin.
Irvin Gallemore, aged 20, was instantly killed Wednesday night when he got caught in one of the gin stands at G. G. Rutherford's gin. The young man was working at the gin and was endeavoring to unchoke the stand when he was caught by the saws. He was lying on his back, reaching back of the saws, when he was thrown into them.
Three young men, Jack Simpson, Stephen Bell and Will Nabors[,] were standing near him when the accident occurred and saw his body go into the stand, but it happened so quickly that they were unable to help. Death came instantly, and it is said that the stands had to be taken apart to remove his body, which was horribly mangled.
The body was taken to Ennis in Keever's ambulance and prepared for burial and was brought back Thursday morning. Funeral arrangements had not been made, but it is supposed that the body will be buried at Chatfield[,] where the young man's father was buried.
The deceased is a son of Mrs. J. A. Gallemore, who resides west of town on Fortson Bros. ranch. He was reared in the Rice country, and was an industrious young man of a most likeable disposition. Besides his mother he is survived by several brothers and sisters and numerous relatives in the Rice country.14
  • Note*: He died in an accident at the Rutherford gin in Rice when he was mangled by the gin machinery.15,16
