- Death*: He died on 18 December 1928 at age 56.5
- Obituary*: "Samuel Wilson Vancleave, son of Ransom and Sarah Vancleave, was born April 3, 1872 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bion Myers on the 18th of Dec. 1928 at the age of 56 years, 8 months and 15 days. He went to the marriage alter with Miss Pearl James on Christmas Day 1898 and they plighted together their lives in a solemn vow to share lifes duties together which vow they kept inviolate for almost 30 years, sharing mutually the joys and the sorrows incident to, and upon, the pilgrimage of the children of men. To them were born two children, Mrs. Gladys Myers and Lowell Vancleave. Deceased spent a considerable part of his life on the farm, but his last years were in the employ of the Crawfordsville Casket Co. With his own hands he built the casket in which he now is resting in the last long sleep the beauty and perfection of which, attest his skill. In this as in everything else that he did he expressed his belief, that when one has done his bet, he has not done too well. He had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Freedom for a number of years, and had shown by a well directed life, by pious and Godly conversation that his profession of Christianity was sincere; the fruit of which he leaves to the comfort of others. He had membership in the Waveland Camp of Modern Woodman. He was an honest man, a truthful man, an industrious man, in all of his relations with his fellow men he showed the genuineness of his motives and purposes. He was one of a family of 13 children one of which Dr. Charley Vancleave, preceded him in death. His father died about 6 years ago, and his mother 21. He leaves a good, kind and loving wife, two children, 3 grandchildren, 6 brothers, 5 sisters and of relatives and friends a great many."5
