  • Will Excerpts*: ¶ I, Bibby Bush, of the State of South Carolina and District of Edgefield, being weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for the same. Calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this instrument of writing to contain my last Will and Testament.
    ¶ First, I lend to my beloved wife, Mary Bush, during her natural life time or widowhood, four negroes Peter, Primas, Mall, and Roadah; two head of horses, Janus and my old mare; two beds and furniture; four cows and calves, gangue [sic] of hogs, four ewes; my household and kitchen furniture; and as many of my plantation tools as my Executors shall think sufficient for her; also the plantation where I now live and after my wife's death or marriage, I give the plantation I lent my wife, to my son Richard and fifty-two acres, joining it that is another plat, also my mill and what land belong to it to him and his heirs forever. I give my daughter, Phareby Bush, a tract of land containing 250 acres more or less, it being the remaining part of a plat that I give to Hezekiah Walker to her and her heirs forever. My desire is that the remaining part of the plat I give my sons, John, William, and Arthur Satcher. If it should be sold by my Executors, the money it fetches, I give to my daughter, Nancy Carter. My further desire is that at my death, all my negroes and what other property I have not lent nor given away shall be equally divided among all my children, and at the death or marriage of my wife, my desire is that all the property I lent her shall be divided as that at my death.
    ¶ I likewise Constitute, make and appoint my two son [sic], Issac [sic] Bush and Herrin Bush Executors of this my last Will and testament, and I do hereby utterly disannual [sic] all and every other former will or wills by me made ratifying and confirm- [sic]this and no other to be my last will and testament.
