At 17, he served in the Navy during World War II, graduated from Texas A&M University [then named The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas] in 1948 and then went to Mexico to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. . . . In 1962, he answered President Kennedy's call and moved his young family to Bogota, Colombia, as assistant director of the Peace Corps, consequently serving in Honduras, and then Belize as the director. In 1965, they moved to Panama, where he began his work as agricultural development officer with the Agency for International Development, a branch of the U.S. Department of State. He continued this work helping small farmers in Bolivia, El Salvador and Costa Rica. After over 25 years in Latin America, he retired from the State Department in 1987 to live on his farm" in Arkansas.9

He was the announcer for the Wild Hog Cook-off and Ranch Rodeo in La Salle County for 25 years and a staunch supporter of the Junior Livestock Show."16
