  • Obituary*: "FORMER AMITY RESIDENT DEAD
       "Amity, July 16 [1926].—Joseph L. Loop, former resident of Amity, died at McMinnville Saturday, July 10. He was born September 25, 1851, in Montgomery county, Va. When 11 years of age he moved with his parents to near Taswell [sic; should be Tazewell], Tennessee, where he grew to manhood and married Minila Farme [sic; should be Manila Farmer]. In 1902 Mr and Mrs. Loop and family came to Oregon and located on a farm near Amity. They later moved to McMinnville where they have since made their home.
       "He is survived by his widow and eight children, seven sons and one daughter.
       "Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church Monday by Rev. Henry, pastor of the Baptist church in McMinnville, assisted by the Methodist pastor, Rev. Dark. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery."5
  • Note*: With his family, he moved from Montgomery County, Virginia to Claiborne County, Tennessee at about age 5. When he married Sarah in 1862 they lived on a farm in that county, near Lone Mountain on the Clinch River, that her father gave them. They moved to Oregon in 1902. He farmed there, near Briedwell Station in Yamhill County, until 1920, when he retired and moved to McMinnville.12
