• Note*: From an obituary: "Mrs. Atnip served in the WAACs, a division of the U.S. Army, during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. She met the love of her life, Herbert Cordell Atnip, on a train leaving Wills Point in l944. As he watched her from the window of the train before she boarded, he told an elderly lady seated beside him, "Look at that pretty blonde. I'm going to marry her." After finishing their service in the Army, they married March 15, 1946. They were married 50 years. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Adelle was a homemaker who loved to paint. She was a member of the Swan Wood-Springs Methodist Church."⁵
