     Clarence Eugene Bartlett, 85, a resident of Boise for more than 40 years, died at his home at 1317 North Thirteenth street early Saturday morning after a long illness.
     Mr. Bartlett was born Aug. 7, 1868 in Macon county, Mo. He graduated from high school at Greenwood, Mo., and started to work as a telegrapher for the Wabash, Keokuk and Western railroad at Greenwood junction. Later he was a railroad agent at Marysville, Mo., for 13 years.
     He was then transferred to the Missouri Pacific as livestock agent, with headquarters at Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Bartlett moved to Boise from Pueblo, Colo., in 1912 and was employed by the Union Pacific railroad as cashier of the Boise freight depot. He retired in 1940.
     He was married to Miss Emma Stevens in 1889 and she died in Boise Aug. 8, 1940. In 1945 he married Miss Florence Douglas of Boise. Mr. Bartlett was a member of Idaho lodge No. 1, AF&AM, and the Christian church.
     Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Florence Douglas Bartlett of Boise, a foster son, Darwin Lathrop of Boise, and a number of nieces and nephews.
     Services are being arranged by Summers chapel."¹⁰

     Mrs. C. E. Bartlett died of a heart attack Thursday morning at her home, 1317 North Thirteenth street. She had been in poor health for the last three years, but had seemed improved the last six months.
     Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p. m. at Summers Funeral Home. The Rev. W. J. Luscombe and Adah Chapter No. 8, Order of the Eastern Star, of which Mrs. Bartlett [sic], will have charge of services. Interment will be in Morris Hill Cemetery.
     Emma Stevenson Bartlett was born on a farm in Appanoose County, Ia., April 29, 1869. At an early age she became a member of the Disciples Church in Iowa. She was married to C. E. Bartlett in Shenandoah, Ia., Dec. 19, 1889. A daughter was born to them and died in childhood.
     Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett came to Boise in July, 1912, and have resided here ever since. Mr. Bartlett was associated with a railroad company until his retirement in January. The Bartletts celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Dec. 19.
     Mrs. Bartlett was an active clubwoman until the last five years, when her health failed. She was a prominent member of Columbian Club and Order of the Eastern Star.
     Besides her husband, Mrs. Bartlett is survived by a foster son, Darwin Lathrop, of Hartford, Conn; a brother, Walter Stevenson of Seymore, Ia; three sisters, Mrs. C. E. Jarrett of Denver, Colo., Miss Sally Stevenson of Centerville, Ia., and Miss Laura Stevenson of Mt. Pleasant, Ia."¹¹

From 1949 onward, he was the state veterans employment representative for the U.S. Department of Labor. He has been recognized by various organizations for his outstanding work for veterans and for many years had been the veterans employment chairman for the American Legion in Idaho.¹²
