     Marlow, Jan. 26—Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church Thursday afternoon for Millard Fillmore Fortson, 80-year-old pioneer of this section who died at his home here Wednesday evening.
     The Rev. J. C. Acord conducted the services, assisted by the Rev. A. L. Gregg.
     Fortson, who was a member of the Baptist church here for 60 years, was born in Clayton county, Georgia, in 1858, and came to Marlow from Texas in 1906. In 1878, he married Miss Dora Almond, who died in 1885. Later he was married to Miss Josie Jones, who died in 1929.
     He is survived by 4 sons, G. L. Fortson, of Duncan; Ben and Johnson Fortson, of Marlow; and Charlie Fortson, of near Marlow; and 3 daughters, Mrs. John Burton, of Enid; Mrs. F. T. Waggoner, of Duncan; and Miss Ethel Fortson, of near Marlow."⁵

     "Gainesville, Ga., December 29.—(Special.) Alline, the six-year-old daughter of Mr. M. F. Fortson, of this city, happened to a bad accident this afternoon. While descending a stairway at her home she fell to the floor, a distance of twelve feet, fracturing her skull and sustaining severe internal injuries. The chances are against her recovery."¹
