- Obituary*: "ELIZABETH DeLASHMUTT
"Elizabeth DeLashmutt, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Cinterhoff Chizek, was born at Prague, Bohemia on November 2nd, 1866 and departed this life at her home in Burwell, Nebraska, January 18th, 1943.
"Her first birthday was spent upon the ocean. With her mother and older sister, Mary, she was sailing to America to join the father in the new world which was to be their future home. They first located at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, soon after pushing on westward, setline in Mills County, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood.
"March 9, 1882, she was married to Jesse Van DeLashmutt at Glenwood, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm four miles south of Pacific Junction, Iowa. It was in this farm that their eight children were born. Their eldest daughter, Pearl, died in early childhood.
"In 1907 the family moved to a ranch on the Calamus river in Loup County, Nebraska. A home was maintained in Burwell where the family lived much of the time.
"Although this loved one led a very active life she was never too busy to bestow love and kindness on ones about her. A woman of sterling qualities, she possessed a quiet happy disposition.
"For more than twenty-five years she was a member of the Burwell Congregational Church. Her Christian associations were very dear to her and her sweet trust and abiding faith in the Higher Power endeared her to all who knew her.
"For thirty-three years she has been a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
"Mr. and Mrs. DeLashmutt have been privileged to enjoy together two very special occasions in their lifetime, one their golden wedding anniversary and the other their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
"A most devoted wife and mother, she lives to mourn her passing her husband, J. V. DeLashmutt, five daughters, Mrs. Grace Martin of Omaha, Mrs. Esther (A.J.) Meyer of Burwell, Mrs. Lucile (Q) Matthews of Aurora, Mrs. Gladis (H.S.) Brown of Nogales, Arizona, Mrs. Genevieve (Fred) Schnabel of Phoenix Arizona, two sons, Clay of Sidney and Paul of Los Angeles, California, seven grand children and three great grand children. One grandson, Bernard DeLashmutt is now serving in the armed forces in Africa.
"Mrs. DeLashmutt also leaves four sisters and two brothers and a host of other relatives and friends who will ever hold sacred her memory. Our earthly loss is Heaven’s gain for our loved one has but passed through Glory’s morning gate and now walks in Paradise.
"Funeral services were conducted from the Congregational Church Tuesday afternoon in charge of the pastor, Rev. Loren Brown. The sextet composed of Mrs. Draver, Mrs. Beynon, Mrs. Cram, Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Ed. Cram and Mr. Tom Banks with Mrs. Wm. McMullen at the piano, sang favorite hymns of the deceased. The entire service was a beautiful tribute to the life of this splendid woman.
"The following friends served as pall bearers: Pete Hughes, Chet Peterson, Henry McMullen, Paul Banks, Ken Peterson and Richard Banks, bearing her to her last resting place in the Burwell cemetery."9
