Edith P. Babb

  • Scrapbook*: "PRETTY HOME WEDDING TUESDAY UNITED MISS EDITH BABB AND ROY E. DELAFOSSE OF THIS CITY
"A pretty home wedding took place Tuesday afternoon [23 Apr 1929] when Miss Edith Babb, daughter of Mr. W. A. Babb, 1516 West Fourth avenue, became the bride of Roy Eugene DeLafosse at the home of the bride. The home was a veritable bower of pink roses, trailing ivy and white privet flowers. The impressive ring ceremony was read by the Rev. P. Martin Baker, pastor of the Third Avenue Presbyterian church, before an improvised altar of beauty, artistically arranged in the reception hall in an orchid alcove. The background was of ivy, privet blossoms and fern. On each side stood tall beauty baskets of pink and white roses, and two tall wrought iron candelabra holding pink tapers. The stairway down which the bridal party came, was entwined with ivy.
"The bride, wearing a youthful model of beige chiffon with hat of natural baku and pumps of water-snake in beige tones, carried a Colonial bride’s bouquet of pink rose buds, and valley lilies, showered with ribbons tied at intervals with lilies of the valley. She was given in marriage by her sister, Mrs. Billie Kenner, who wore a figured organdie and carried a Colonial corsage of pink rose buds.
"Prior to the entrance of the bride and groom, Miss Margie Davis, gowned in powder blue lace and wearing a corsage of pink rose buds, sang “God Touched the Rose,” accompanied at the piano by Mrs. J. M. McGee, who was wearing a figured chiffon gown and waist corsage of rose buds in pink. The bride’s sister, Miss Tillie Babb, played Mendelssohn’s wedding march and during the ceremony Mrs. McGee played softly “To a Wild Rose,” Miss Babb wore a most becoming peach figured chiffon, and waist corsage of pink rose buds.
"The bride was met at the altar by the groom, who entered with Billie Kenner, as best man.
"An informal reception was held after the ceremony, the dining table being a picture, laid in Italian cut work and fillet lace banquet cloth, and centered with a mound of love pink radiance roses and snapdragons. Tall pink tapers glowed in solver candlesticks.
"The bride’s cake, a beautiful three-tiered confection in white embossed in pink rose buds, was presided over by Miss Adelaide Robinson, a cousin of the bride. Pink and white brick cream and pink and white fints were served the guests with the bride’s cake, when cut.
"On the buffet pink candles in solver holders and pink roses in a silver basket completed the beautiful scene.
"Mr. and Mrs. DeLafosse left in their car for points south, and after a ten days’ honeymoon will be at home with the groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. DeLafosse, 1719 West Fourth avenue.
"Among the out-of-town relatives were the bride’s aunts, Mmes. E. B. Robinson of Blooming Grove and Ella Blair of Dresden; and the groom’s relatives, Mrs. J. E. O’Dell of Shawnee, Okla., and Mrs. S. B. DeLafosse of Hebbronville, Texas.
"Guests remained after the wedding to view the lovely array of wedding gifts."5

"Only the immediate families and Colonel and Mrs. Lowry will witness the ceremony, and Mr. Fortson and his bride will leave at once for the mountains of North Carolina, where they will join Mr. and Mrs. Blanton E. Fortson for a few weeks, before returning to Atlanta, where they will reside.
